It depends on which school you choose. Whether you are a resident or non-resident of the state plays a huge factor. My tuition is about $12,000 per semester at Oklahoma State University and I am a resident of Oklahoma. That is in addition to fees of about $1,500 per semester. There are 9 semesters in the entire program. Don't forget you have to go to undergraduate school first, most people attend four years before getting accepted to veterinary school. An education is an investment in your future. You are paying for a degree that will help you earn more money later in life. However, most veterinarians do not make very much money considering how much they had to pay for their education. To sum it up, a person decides to become a veterinarian because they love the profession, no to make a huge salary.
The cost of a college education has risen steadily and rapidly, be it undergraduate or professional degrees. The cost of a four year veterinary college education varies widely, depending if it is a state or private college; the private colleges are more expensive. If you attend veterinary college as an in-state student your tuition will be nearly half the amount paid by an out-of-state student. Obviously, you would pay nearly double the tuition if you went to an out-of-state school yourself. There are veterinary colleges in the Caribbean as well and they are a very expensive alternative. One of these colleges, St. Matthew's, at this time, is not an accredited program.
Scholarships are available and due to the expense of veterinary college they should be explored. Some students (like myself when I was in veterinary college) had jobs or assistantships at the veterinary college to help ease the costs.
Below is a complete list of all the veterinary colleges in the United States (including the Caribbean schools) showing the tuition cost for the four year education required for a degree, broken down by in-state and out-of-state tuitions, cost of living expenses (estimated) for the four years at the college, and the class size (just for interest's sake). The order they are arranged is in relation to the costs for in-state students, from the most inexpensive to most expensive.
The information was from the VIN Foundation Site and the numbers are updated for 2013-2014. The abbreviations listed below the college name are, IS (in-state tuition), OS (out-of-state tuition), LE (living expenses), CS (class size).
