The "eight glasses a day" adage really isn't correct. There's no evidence to suggest the average person needs eight glasses of water a day to be in optimal state. Additionally, any water that a person does need can be obtained through foods and other liquids, such as milk, tea, coffee or juice. One could remain perfectly hydrated without ever consuming straight water. So even though I can't put an exact number on hydration, it's still important to remain hydrated, especially during times of physical exertion and hot weather. Replacing fluids lost as perspiration is critical to maintaining physical perfromance and well being.
The diet varies from person to person. On average, 2000 calories of food should be taken daily. Similarly, at least 8 glass of water is a must.
