It really depends on what items you plan to import. Some items are duty-free, such as photographic equipment and supplies, whereas others are liable to a large import tax. Usually any personal purchases under twenty dollars can be imported duty-free, and gifts brought into the ountry to be left that have a value of sixty dollars or less will not be liable for duty. There are some tricky discrepancies that should be noted too, such as most loose gemstones are not subject to duty, but finished jewellery is. Because these and all other regulations are liable to change at any time, your best bet is to contact border services in advance of your arrival in the country, or, if you are importing by post, in advance of your purchase. You can receive detailed and up to date information on what items are subject to importation duty, and how much you can expect to be charged.
I am trying to find out the answer to that same question and can seem to find it any where. I have even emailed the BC government and have yet to hear back from them. I don't get why the answer is so hard to locate. There are two items to check - obne is the AMOUNT allowed to each province, and second is the total taxes - which include a complicated formula of duties, taxes, etc. As a good rule of thumb, it equates to approximately 40% - 100% premium on the price you pay for the base wine depending on province (SK/AB around 40%, ON 70%, QC/BC 100%). Good news is those in ON and BC can bring back 45 liters, vs. 9 L in SK! So, whatever you buy had better be really good value, or very rare...!
we brought back 8 extra bottles of hard liquor, over our limit of one 40 oz each. tax and duty was $109. Ridiculous. So $13 per bottle, approximately. Still cheaper than here. Would not bother next time, unless it was something you cannot get here- rare rum or tequila. Those bottles are heavy, carting them around, and extra hassle at customs. While duty was cheap, a couple of bucks per bottle, Saskatchewan liquor tax is not.

I am not Canadian, but the use of the term "Canadian Forces" implies that you are referring to the Canadian Military. If that is the case, the US F.B.I. is in no way connected to the US Military and the two would not be similar.

Duty free perfume can be purchased at duty free shops that are found in airports and along the U.S. Canadian border.
