it depends on what kind of lawyer, where they practice, how long they've been practicing, and what cases they handle. Some work almost exclusively pro-bono or are paid in barter, some make millions of USD per year, and many make anything in between. You're not likely to make a really extravagant amount of money, but most do well enough.

That will depend entirely on how successful he is. If he does public defense work, he'll probably be lucky to make $24,000 a year. If he settles a really big case, he could receive a third of a million dollars.
