The LB7 series of the Duramax 6.6 diesel is listed as 10 quarts with filter, but can vary by a half quart.GM's gas engines recommend 5W-30, regardless of mileage. You can add some Lucas to it if you need to.
For the diesel engines, it needs to be diesel oil specifically. 15W-40 is commonly used as an 'all around' oil. Depending on the climate where you live, you may want to go with a lighter weight (colder environments) or heavier weight (hotter environments).
