All Honda xr's with a dry sump engine (oil is held in the frame) take 2 quarts U.S. When you change the oil make sure to also drain the engine, drain plug is behind the shifter. Usually you can change the oil filter every other oil change. It is critical to change the oil often, as the heat from the air cooled engine will start to break down the oil. I recommend changing oil after every 4 rides. Make sure you use 20w-50 oil unless you are riding in very cool temperatures.
