I'll make some assumptions: You're a Student Pilot or a fresh Private pilot with less than 75-100 hours. You'll be looking at a relatively cheap option, likely a single-engined land airplane like a Cessna 172 equipped for IFR training. Your goal is to be "instrument rated" at the end of the training Anyways, you'll need time in ground school, simulator time, and actual "hood" time in th e airplane...its not cheap, but its not too bad either. A flight school here in Arizona offers an 11-day Instrument program for folks like the above for around $5500, inclusive of the above mentioned training. You'd be in a C-172, get lots of good ground school time, lots of sim time, a competant instructor, and quite a few hours in the cockpit as well. I'd bet the cheapest to be $4000, the most expensive to be around $7000. Good luck to ya!

It is posible to do flight training Online. there are some companies that offer computer based programs for the ground school, like the Cessna pilot centers. As for the actual flight that will have to happen in an airplane with a flight instructor. if you are at 2 locations it will be helpful to have 2 schools or flight instructors that use the same online system. In any case you will always need a primary instructor to mentor you and guide your training. Abour the average cost it depends greatly on what area of the country your are in and your ability. In general the are 3 elements that drive cost: 1. Type of aircraft. rental of your training aircraft will vary from $60 to $315 per hour. 2. Frecuency: as a flight instructor i have come to find that people that fly 3 time a week get their license in the least amount of time.2 times a week it's ok. less than that will increase the cost because you will be relearning things that you forgot. 3. Your ability and study discipine will be one of the most inportant
