What is the difference between a Cessna 150 and a Cessna 152?

The earlier models of the Cessna 150 had a straight up vertical stabilizer and no back window. Later models had a slanted vertical stabilizer and back windows. The Cessna 152 was introduced in 1977 with a slightly higher horsepower engine, slanted vertical stabilizer, and back windows. The 152's cabin is 3 inches wider, and Cessna upgraded from the 150's 100 horsepower Continental O-200 engine to the 108 horsepower Lycoming O-235-L2C engine. The cruise speed for the 152 is between 100-110 MPH. The 150 is about 97 MPH.

Cessna 150's make better stol aircraft as they have flaps that extend to 40 degrees while the 152 only goes to 30. Flap extension on the Cessna 152 was reportedly restricted to only 30 degrees as a safety precaution, in case the flaps could not be retracted during a go-around (aborted landing).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 150, only the L in STOL applies! It should be SL...period. Also, the wider cabin appeared in 1967. I used to own a '67 Cessna 150, Good time builder, but don't plan on getting anywhere fast. Not too comfortable for pilots with long legs too. On long X-country, you could sit in the middle, left foot on the left side rudder pedal, and right foot on the right side right rudder pedal, just to be able to stretch your legs.

------------------------------

My C150L had a normal cruise speed of 115 mph at 75% power, 6 gph. If you really need the T in STOL, check into the Texas Taildragger version, with the larger O-320 engine.

What is the difference between a Cessna 182172 and a Cessna 207?

The Cessna 205/206/207 differs from the 172/182 in several ways. It is bigger, heavier, and more powerful for a start.

Without going into all the specific details, you can put it this way. If the Cessna 172/182 is the sedan of the sky, then the Cessna 205/206/207 is the SUV of the sky.

The most important difference for a pilot is that the 300 hp powerplant and constant speed prop of the 205-series will require the pilot to hold the high-performance and complex aircraft endorsements. The 172 has a smaller engine and a fixed prop, so these endorsements are not required for it.

How much fuel will a Cessna 172 hold?

56 US gallons

I have a model 172K 1969 manufacture Cessna Skyhawk. It has 38 Gallons usable and 4 gallons unusable therefore the fuel total it will hold is 38+4=42 Gallons.

The 56 Gallon answer isn't clear about which model it is and they do vary by model.

What is the useable load of a Cessna 150?

Short answer - about 500 lbs.

Longer answer - varies slightly from year to year and according to equipment installed. Oldest 150s (1959 vintage) had an MTOW (maximum takeoff weight) of 1500 lbs, empty weight was about 1000 to 1050 lbs. Later models went to 1600 lbs MTOW, empty weight climbed to about 1100 lbs, so payload was still 500 lbs. Cessna 152 had an MTOW of 1670 lbs, but empty weight climbed again to about 1150 or so, and we are again at 500 lbs payload.

Some 150s and 152s had 38 gallon long range tanks (about 10% of the fleet), but filling them up weighed 228 lbs, so the passengers had to have a combined weight of no more than 270 lbs, which isn't likely nowadays (people are bigger these days, in 1959 a "standard FAA person" weighed 170 lbs.)

What is the dihedral on the wing of a Cessna 182?

The C182 hardly has dihedral, if any. Dihedral is when the wing is kind of a "V" shape. This picture is self explanatory: http://www.littletoyairplanes.com/theoryofflight/images/whyplanesfly/fullsize/10dihedral.jpg

What is the difference between Cessna 152 aircraft and Cessna 172 aircraft?

its pretty much the same just little bigger engine and sitting capacity up to 4 person in 172 where as 152 has only 2 seats. 172 carrys more fuel then 152. 172 has two types tank. one for long haul and other for short haul.

otherwise these two planes has almost the same features. and very good aircraft for training. i did my PPL in 152's and IR in 172's

milan, TX

The Cessna 150 was introduced in 1957 modeled after the Cessna 140 tail dragger. It is mostly a training aircraft and has two seats. The last model was produced in 1985. The Cessna 172 is a 4 seat aircraft that looks like a bigger 150. It was introduced in 1955 and is still in production today.

What about the engine in a Cessna N any concerns?

Yeah...it's a piece of junk. If the hull is in good shape and you can get the plane cheap enough to put a newer engine in it on an STC and still have the plane come in a little less expensive than a 172P, go for it. Otherwise, go for a 172P or later.

How much runway length does a Cessna 172 aircraft need to take off?

This varies depending on many factors. The aircraft's weight being foremost, a heavily loaded 172 can require as much as 3 times the runway as a nearly empty one. Additionally outside air temperature makes a big difference. On a hot day, you may need 200 to 500 feet more runway, and may not be able to take off at all if youre heavy. Field elevation plays a big role as well, some airports may be more than 5000 feet above sea level, this means less lift from your wings, and more runway. Weather can help or hurt you. A good stiff headwind might save you 200 or 300 feet from your takeoff roll, but its just as likely youll get a crosswind which may cost you. Pavement makes a huge difference, taking off from grass ususally takes at least 100 feet more runway.

Bearing all that in mind, on a nice summer day, with just me in the plane & about a half-tank of gas, i can easily get off the ground in under 800 feet of runway, and if im trying, as little as 500.

How is Cessna 172 steered in taxi?

A Cessna 172 is taxied by use of the rudder pedals.

The rudder pedals are connected by rods to the steerable nosewheel. There is a certain amount of advantage of propwash over the rudder, but the wheel swivelling is the main steering method. You can also use differential braking, that is pushing on the tops of the rudder pedals, causes them to lean over and apply brakes. These are independant, so pressing the left brake, causes a turn to the left, actually tighter than the nosewheel circle. When the 172 has taken off, and the nosewheel oleo is fully extended, the wheel only swivels until it comes to the straight ahead position. Then it locks, and stays that way, until landing, and there is sufficient weight on it to unlock and the steering rods are active again.
