Generally, if you begin to overreach or over train or the activity begins to impede your ability to have a normal life, it's too much. The defining characteristic of overtraining/overreaching is a decrease in total exercise capacity, whether it's being unable to lift as much weight as you used to or do as many reps, or being unable to maintain the same pace you once had on cardio machines. Also, if you engage in so much exercise that it interferes with your ability to have a normal life, it's too much. If you find yourself unable to have time with friends or family or skip work because you need to go exercise, you probably need to reevaluate your priorities.
