Best Answer

30g-40g

The rule isn't set in stone. It's more of a guideline, not many studies have been done on how much protein can be absorbed by the body at once. Many nutritionists suggest the number is about 30g protein. But someone that weighs 150lbs and someone that weighs 200lbs will obviously have different amounts. Furthermore, if the body is drained and in dire need of calories and nutrients, any amount of protein would be absorbed.

I think Ur answer is concerned about "body building"..? then my answer is ....

In my case I do 5 liter sweating workout in the gym for an hour. I eat 15 eggs(with out yolk) and half a kg boneless chicken(with out skin and fat) with normal rice in 5 divided meals. My height 5.10" with 75Kg weight.

So my protein intake daily is about 170+(I didn't added the rice proteins). I am growing about 2.9 to 3.4 Kg every month(with 7% fat). I am running BPO office so not much physical work to do. So I am not spending much stress besides the gym workout.

If U calculate 170gramsX30days= 5100grams. But I am growing 5.1Kg every month. So what I think that only about 45 to 65% of protein is going to store as "strength muscle", rest of it may be utilizing for energy production.

All of it, more or less. Not all of it will actually be used in protein synthesis (building muscle), but your body will make use of it somehow, perhaps using it as an energy source by oxidating it.

So the real amount of protein that can be absorbed for muscle building at one time would depend on a number of factors, including the amount of damage to the muscles, insulin levels, other hormonal levels, whether or not creatine is being consumed and so forth. I can't put a number on this, though total of consumption of protein per day should be around .75 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight for bodybuilders.

Also this will depend on the type of protein and how it is consumed. Whey protein for example will be absorbed and broken down into the amino-acids VERY quickly meaning that any more than around 20-25 grams will be passed through the system and urinated out (the body doesn't store protein well). However if a gradually releasing protein such as egg or milk (whether in shake form or not) is consumed, anything up to 30 grams can be consumed as it takes longer for the body to consume meaning less is wasted. By taking a protein shake in water you can absorb protein at a faster rate than with milk.

If you mean absorption from the intestinal tract, it absorbs as much as you eat.

But if you mean how much of the protein that you eat is actually converted into body protein, that's a trickier question. The RDA for protein is set a bit higher than the amount of protein that most people need to replace each day within their bodies, so your RDA for protein can give you an approximate idea of the amount of protein you convert to body protein each day. Protein eaten in excess of the amount you need (likely somewhat less than the RDA) is burned for energy and thus cannot be made into body protein. Common sense will support this: most people eat 1.5 to 2x their actual need for protein, yet people are not becoming large blobs of protein over time, which is what would happen if all protein consumed were converted to body protein.

It has not been established yet, but it's believed to variate according to your weight, body composition and physical activity level. Studies conducted by University of Illinois McKinley Health Center recommend a maximum of 50g of whey protein at a time. Since whey if absorbed at 8-10g per hour, you may wanna compare it to other protein digestion rates in order to estimate your best intake at meals.
