I just had my clutch replaced in my 3000GT VR4 Spyder, which is the turbo and has the 4wheel steering and AWD so it is extremely tight in there. That is an actual quote from my mechanic. Anyway to replace the clutch with Mitsubishi parts and have the flywheel turned was $1300.00.

My point is that if it cost me that much for my extremely hard to work on tranny then it should be less for yours. My best recommendation would be to go to www.cartalk.com and look for the section that lists mechanics that have gotten good reviews from people like you and I. The list can be searched to find a mechanic in your area that has proven to be both reliable and knowledgeable. If you do that you might be able to find a few in your area and then it would come down to who gives you the best price.

Mine is a cable clutch so there is no slave cylinder. But if yours is a hydraulic clutch then it should be located on the firewall on the driver side close to the master cylinder.

You have a 98 cavalier 5 speed and had the clutch go out you had it replaced and it went out again in 500 miles any reasons why it would do this?

Installed incorrectly, driver who rides the clutch, clutch out of adjustment, weak pressure plate, that should have been replaced along with the clutch.

Where does the little rod go in a 1990 Mitsubishi pickup just replaced the clutch and forgot the rod?

If you just replaced the clutch and pressure plate, the only "little rod" I can think of is in the slave cylinder. It is what pushes the fork in to disengage the clutch. If you did not put it in, you should not be able to shift or engage the clutch. The slave cylinder should blow out the seal when you step on the clutch pedal. The rod is about the diameter of a pencil and 2 inches long more or less?

do it your self, it took me 35 min to swap my tranny and put in a new clutch with out a lift or air tools. its really easy to do, the tranny is really small and light and every thing is easily accessable. but if you really want to pay someone to do it, it will prolly cost you around $600-$700 including a new clutch.

Is it dangerous when clutch slips?

It depends on your definition of "dangerous. There is inherent danger two ways. If the clutch does not engage enough to move the vehicle out of the way of a dangerous situation (impending collusion) and the situation develops, you could be injured or killed. Most likely the clutch will get worse and worse until the vehicle can not be driven (unless you coast down hill or have someone push you). As the clutch disk wears beyond a certain point the pressure plate and flywheel sustain damage also. A new clutch release bearing should be installed when the clutch is repaired.
