How to replace a clutch interlock switch on a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT
The clutch pedal assembly has a clutch rod that pushes in on a clutch master cylinder. There is a hydro line that goes from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder.
if it is a self-adjusting clutch, you can't adjust it. if the cluth engages at the top, then you will need a new clutch. just take it to a ford dealership, its the easiest way to get it done right because of the hydraulic cylinders and what not also you could try bleeding the air of of the lines
under the brake booster
have someone mash the clutch while you are under the truck looking at the cylinder to see if its moving, if no movement undo the line and hold your thumb over it and have someone mash the clutch to see if brake fluid squirts out, if no fluid squirts out, replace the clutch master cylinder
Clutch hydrauic problem with master, slave, line or check where the master connects to the clutch pedal for a missing bushing
pull the trans take out the old clutch and put a new one in then put it back together. or do what i do i buy a book on my ranger and fix it myself
I know on the 1996 Ranger the manual shows to lift the clutch pedal every 5,000 miles to adjust the hydraulic clutch . I don't know if yours is the same
Slave cylinders will typically leak when they're bad. If you're sucking air (getting air in the lines) or the brakes just don't engage when you press the pedal or if the brake pedal fades to the floor; it's a master cylinder.
