We don't have many toll roads down here in the south. We are a laid back and relaxed people. None of us are in a big enough hurry to get anywhere that we are willing to pay a toll just to go faster. The few places you do see toll roads, they cost less than $5 for the total distance.
Need to know which part of New York you're leaving from and which part of South Carolina you're headed to. There'll be a difference in tolls if you're leaving from Upstate NY vs. NYC, and that'll also determine your route through Pennsylvania, which may or may not involve the Turnpike. Not to mention that whether or not you're taking I95 down matters, because that determines if you're taking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel or not. Do try to be mindful that both are pretty substantially-sized states.

If you take I-95 there are no tolls in NC or Virginia. As of a couple years ago, there were none in SC either.
