1. After refill check oil level.
2. With engine at operating temperature, shift through all gears.
Let engine idle in PARK for at least 3 minutes.
CK level and add fluid as needed. Do not overfill.
Why would the transmission not even go into drive in your 2001 Chevy Metro after you changed the transmission filter and put a quart of tranny fluid and lucas back into the tranny afterwards?
It would be best not to put any transmission fluid in the engine. Really!! I'd never of guessed. I guess the clue is 'transmission and fluid' and that the fluid goes in the transmission!! the reason I put the type of engine was IOT assist someone with a realistic answer, I didn't expect for one minute the answer I received, but this is America!!

First, the engine must be a normal operating temperature (drive a few times around the block) and then add small amounts of fluid to the transmission checking the level frequently. Overfilling the transmission can do just as much harm as not having enough fluid. Be very careful to not overfill. More is not better in this case.
