It all depends:

1. A woman should not consume less then 1200 calories p/d and a man under 1800 p/d

2. Also check out you BMR which is how many calories your body burns by just sitting around all day. This is worked out by your weight/height an type of job you do.

3. Try to have 50% carbs, 30% protein an 20% into your diet. You can adjust this as you feel fit.

Me personally would stick to around 1200 calories as i am only 5ft, do a hard workout for around 15mins p/d and adjust myself over the following weeks depending on how much weight i loose or if i need to start stabilising it. By doing the above i lost on average 2-3 pounds per week and i have kept that weight of now for a year as my eating habits and food perspectives have altered completely.

3 years ago i was eating around 3000 calories p/d an average meal would consit of 2 burgers, fries an a pudding. I was basically an umper lumper without the tan with a BMI of 35 and size 16-18 clothes

Now i have a BMI of 25 size 10-12 clothes and feel like im a completely different person. I always eat wholemeal bread, skimmed milk an only half the portions of what i used to eat. sometimes i put the odd 1-2 pounds on but as i weight myself weekly i can sort it out quickly.

Always keep a food diary too.

500 calories is close to starvation, 1000calories would be better for your health and it is unlikely to cause weight gain. 1500 calories would be better still for your health.
