It really depends on your body weight. A person who weighs 250 pounds will burn more calories than someone who weighs 150. As someone who weighed in the 270's at one point, I burned about 400 calories just walking at a 3.0 for 60 minutes. As I lost weight, I noticed I wasn't burning as many calories while continuing to walk at a 3.0 for 60 minutes.

Yes, but it won't burn as much energy. Walking is less violent to your joints, however. Spend more time walking compared to how much time you would've spent running and make up the shortfall that way. And put the treadmill on a few per cent incline to make it a little harder still.

Also keep in mind that the FDA uses an average of 2000 calories a day, but your body may require more or less than that depending on several factors. As a very general rule you can take your body weight x15 to get an idea of your minimal calorie needs.

Finally, be aware of your caloric intake. A big mac value meal from McDonald's can be over a thousand calories in itself and ideally, you don't want that many of your daily calories coming from fat.
