i have a 2002 chevy avalanche1500 had transmission fluid changed about 3 months ago i just noticed a little slip and checked the trany fluid it is 2qts over can that hurt the trany and what type of fluid is required
A 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo holds approximately 10 quarts of transmission fluid. When only the fluid in the pan is changed, a total of 5 quarts of fluid is needed.
The Cobalt is a closed system. That means you can not add trans fluid, it has to go to the dealer to get it done right. rev. this is not a closed system. you can add fluid on top of the trans there is a fill cap. best thing to do if your not sure is to drop the pan and change the filter and add 7 qts of fluid. The transmission fluid on a Chevy Trailblazer is changed by placing a drain pan under the vehicle, removing the drain plug, and allowing it to empty. The drain plug is then re-installed and fluid added through the filler tube until full.
The transmission is sealed. It is intended to never need to be checked or changed. Check out this link for more info: http://www.ecotecforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2801
The only easily done maintenances for a manual or automatic transmission is the transmission fluid change. While Chevy says that this should be done every 100,000 miles, I did mine at 50,000 with royal purple and the transmission has been fantastic since then. I am currently at 85,000 with an original clutch and transmission.
My 1990 Chevy celebrity does not have a drain plug on the transmission pan. Your car probably does not have one either. You could break loose a transmission line from the radiator and add fluid in the dipstick tube while the car is running until the color of the transmission fluid clears up. I am guessing you are trying to change the transmission fluid. This is how I changed my transmission fluid there are lots of videos on how to do this on youtube.
