Factory specs call for change every 30,000 miles or every 24 months. Realistically, when you pull the transaxle dipstick and can see that the fluid still retains a visibly pink color, you should be all right. If it begins to turn dark it needs changing.
Honda does not recommend you change the A/T fluid every 30,000 miles or every 24 months except under sever conditions which is regularly driving short distances of less than 5 miles. For normal driving Honda recommends you change the A/T fluid every 120,000 miles or 6 years whichever comes first and then after that every 90,000 miles or 5 years, which would apply to your Honda unless you drive it under severe conditions. If you drive under severe conditions then every 30,000 miles or 2 years would be correct. Your car is 11 years old so for sure you need to have the fluid changed immediately. Warning: Use only genuine Honda ATF DW-1 A/T fluid and nothing else or you will experience rough shifting. This is all listed in your owners manual on page 237-240.
Honda Automatic transmissions use an internal filter that is designed for the life of the transmission. It is extremely rare that one would have to be changed. Also do not do a power flush on a Honda transmission as it will ruin the internal seals.
The type of automatic transmission fluid that you should put in your 1997 Honda Prelude varies depending on the transmission. Honda recommends that you use their own brand of ATF when you replace the fluid in the SportShift transmission.
There is no automatic transmission filter on Honda Pilot.

Can you change a automatic to a 5 speed Honda Accord 1990
The Honda automatic transmission is filled through the transmission dipstick hole.
I don't believe Honda Element automatic transmission has a filter.
If your Accord is an automatic, use the Honda automatic transmission fluid. With a manual, the Honda manual transmission fluid. I'd strongly suggest using genuine Honda fluid over a substitute.
