1 year Answer A Dog's puppy stage can last up to 18 months. The general adage of the equivalent of 1 year = 7 human years isn't quite accurate. Dogs mature more quickly in their early years 1 year is around 12-15 years equivalent and 19-24 by the age of 2. Breeds are different however and some will not reach full maturity until around 3.

∙ 13y agoThe American Kennel Club allows dogs to compete in the puppy class until they are 12 months of age. After that they are no longer classified as puppies.
Most dogs are generally considered to be adults at around 12 to 15 months old. The larger the breed the later maturing. Giant breeds may take two years to become adults.

∙ 14y agoIt depends on the breed of dog. Small to medium dogs such as Jack Russell Terriers and Corgis mature at about 12 months. Larger breeds like German Shepherd Dogs don't mature until 18 to 24 months of age. Giant breeds such as Mastiffs are not fully grown for 3 years.
