I bought my 99 Mistake in March 2006.Ran great for 3 months, then alternator went, had to buy a new one($400 parts and labor).2 months later had to have the alt.rebuilt($400 parts and labor).2 months later had major idling problems-put in new fuel pump, fuel filter, idle control motor($600 parts and labor).1 month later same idling problems. My mechanic was stumped and said he couldn't figure it out.I kept driving it and a week later it seemed to fix itself and suddenly ran great.2 weeks later it suddenly just won't start. In short-don't even consider buying a Mystique unless you can afford lots of repairs. I guess the experience is subjective. I got my Mystique in February, 2003, with 40,000 miles on it. So far, it has proven itself pretty reliable. I do mostly highway driving, and have over 130,000 miles on it. The only major things I've had to have done was a front, right wheel bearing, and rear springs. The springs could be attributed to fact that I have heavy audio equipment in the trunk. (No matter how hard I try, I just can't kill that alternator! ;-) )

Q: How reliable is the 1999 Mercury Mystique you are considering it because of the low price but you will not be able to afford constant visits to the repair shop?
