decently strong if your talking about a 10 bolt with an 8.5 ring gear...the ten bolts to stay away from are those from the 80's Monte carlos. they only have 7.5-7.6 ring gears with 26-27 spline axels... very very weak!

the 8.2 is the weaker of the 2 as the axles are smaller, the 8.5 is a super strong rear end, almost as strong as the 12 bolt.
The 12 bolt is GM's strongest rear end and the 8.5" 10 bolt is also a great rear end that will hold up fine.
