The thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus), Greek for "dog-headed pouched one") was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. It is commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger has been extinct since 1936. Adults stood about 60 cm (24 in) at the shoulder.
