They attract each other, they pirouette around a common center of gravity.

The Earth's mass is much greater, so the common center of gravity that they

both orbit is much closer to the Earth's center than it is to the moon's center.

The moon's orbit around the earth is one effect of their gravitational pulls. Additionally, the tides on earth are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon as it revolves around the earth.

The Earth's gravity AND the moon's gravity keeps the moon orbiting around Earth. Also, the Earth's gravity causes tides on the moon's surface. Since there is no water, the tides affect the dirt and rock there.

Over ka-millions of years, the friction from tidal activity on the moon's surface has slowed its spin until these days, the moon makes one spin in the same time it takes to orbit once around the Earth.

This is why the moon's surface always looks the same to us, and is also why you can never see the other side of the moon from Earth.

The moon and the earth are a couple, they actually rotate around each other,

around the common centre of mass, which is approx 1/82 of the distance between their centres when measured from the earths centre.

The centripetal force generated by the rotation of both the moon and the earth

about this point exactly balances the force of gravity between them.

  • The Earth and the Moon both have mass, and thus both have gravity.
  • The Moon has much less mass than the Earth, and so has less gravity of its own.
  • The Moon is trapped within the Earth's gravitational sphere of influence (called the Earth's Hill Sphere)
  • The Moon orbits the Earth because of the Earth's gravitational pull on the Moon
  • The Moon's gravity pulls slightly on the Earth, causing the earth's orbit around the Sun to wobble a bit instead of a smooth ellipse and creates tides on the Earth and other tidal effects; it may also be a contributing factor in earthquakes and tectonic activity within the Earth
  • The earth's gravitational pull on the Moon is also believed to be responsible for generating quakes on the moon (called Moonquakes)
  • Gravity caused the moon (and the Earth, and all the other planets, and the Sun) to form, as the hunks of debris that formed the moon (believed to have been blasted out of the Earth by the collision between the Earth and an early Mars-sized planet) were attracted to each other by gravity; without gravity, the Moon (and the Earth, other planets and the Sun) could never have been created

The gravitation field created by the sun attracts both the earth and the moon, however the earth also produces its own gravitational field which attracts the moon. However the field created by the sun is stronger, which leads to the Earth and the Moon revolving around the sun, while also the moon revolves around the Earth.

The gravity makes the moon to move circularly in its

orbits. The gravity posses a gravitational pull around

earth which bind us to earth so that if we throw an object it fall down but if we posses escape velocity our object will not fall back to earth

The main effect is the tidal movement of the oceans.

The moon's gravity also slows down the earth's rotation, our days get slightly longer day by day.

The moon's gravity helps stabilize the earth on its axis

The moon has very little impact upon the earth apart from earths tides. Some gardeners swear that planting their seeds when the moon is full has some affect on the growing plants.

Moon gravity vs earths gravity?

Moon gravity is less because the atmosphere and mass and the earths gravity is greater than the moon if you weight yourself in the earth and then you weighted yourself in the moon you would weight less in the moon you could actually float in the moon because of its atmosphere and mass

Why the weight of a body is less on the Moon than on Earth?

Because there is less gravity. There is less gravity because the moons total mass is less than the earths and gravity is related to mass.

What is the gravity on the moon lo?

About 0.183g, where one g is the earths gravity, so about one fifth of the earths gravity. It is similar to our own moons surface gravity.

Does the pull of gravity work on the moon?

yes. everything that has a mass has gravity, including urself. but on the moon the gravity is only 17% as strong as earths gravity

What is the force on the Moon's surface compared to the force of gravity on earths surface?

The moon's gravity is about 1/6th of the earth's.

How is the moon related to tides by the moon's gravity?

Because, when there is a high tide, there is a combination of the gravity of the sun and moon pulling on the Earths surface. When that happens, there is high tide. When there is low tide, the moon is on a 90 percent degree different part of the sun, so that area has the least gravity, which means there will be low tide.
