I am a social worker and not an attorney.

This is a very big question, and impossible to answer fully. In the US, there are many laws that regulate how companies and service providers treat clients. You cannot deny goods or services to people based on race, religion, sex or sexual orientation, etc. The laws can be very complex, and there may be some differences if you are talking about private organizations rather than public companies. If you think you have been discriminated against, first contact the Grievance Officer of the company and explain what happened. If you are not satisfied, contact the police.

Most organizations will have well-written policies and procedures that help prevent discrimination, even though there are already many laws against it. Accredited organizations will usually have to meet standards of practice before they are accredited. So looking for accredited organizations is not required, but it is a good idea.
