The Trumpet one of the oldest Musical Instruments, belongs to the brass family. It is played by blowing air through closed lips into the mouth piece creating a buzzing sound that creates a standing wave vibration in the inside column. The trumpet has 3 piston valves with holes in them called bores. When you press a valve down it redirects the length of the airflow path, allowing different notes to be played. The pitch of a note can be altered by using the tuning slide.
before the trumpet looked like it looks today, it when through many steps. the trumpet works by the same physics a shofar works on. a shofar is a rams horn that people blow into to make a noise. a rams horn was the first example of a trumpet. over time, people decided to use the physics of a shofar to make an intrument. that was how the first trumpet was made. originally, the trumpet did not have any keys. people played by adjusting there lips and by blowing harder and softer. then, two keys were added to the trumpet to adjust the pitch. eventually people added three keys to the trumpet and learned to play with out adjusting there lips and by pressing the keys. even today, a trumpet still works just the way a shofar works.
