If your astro is like mine and has that lovely plastic shroud, then it's gonna take a while. 1.You have to first remove all the bolts from the cover directly over top of the radiator.
2. remove the large plastic tube connected to the shroud to allow you to remove it.
3. You should be able to see the bolts holding down the radiator on either side. remove them
4. Remove the rings holdings the hoses to the radiator and pull them off. make sure to allow the engine to cool before you do this.
5. The radiator should pull right out.

The 1996 Chevy Astro Van radiator drain plug can be found on the right hand side of the radiator. The drain plug will be near the bottom of the radiator.
Remove The Radiator And Have A Radiator Shop Test, And Flush It.
The 1998 Chevy Astro lower radiator hose is held in place with a clamp. Turn the clamp screw to the left. The clamp will become loose and the hose can be removed.

Usually at bottom of radiator-perhaps under lower radiator hose
in the oil pan you have drain radiator and tranny fluids first
The mix should be about 50-50, at least.
I think I had the same problem on my 2000 and decided to just take off the lower radiator hose to drain it.
the water is very important to the wworld so in order to make it radiator it needs some love and care, thats wht makes the world go round and the chevy astro van is in the world so it alll makes sence(:
Look where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine. There you will find the thermostat.
