It sounds very much like she is becoming a Catholic, getting to know Jesus Christ by finding His Church where suffering, such as she experienced, can bring forth wonderful new life. well she probably really isn't nicer she prob. just acts that way around you or people she knows you talk to to try and make it seem shes better without you, and shes not all sad and mopey. She probably looks better to you, because when she knows she is going to see you she dresses up better to make you see what you lost! Something always looks better when you don't have it! And you're a jerk for knowing you treated her bad, and did it on purpose!
I don't think it's anything to do with religion.
She has just realized that her world isn't defined by the person that was treating her badly and she can be nice to people and they are nice in return. An the elimination of stress from a bad relationship improves the appearance of everyone.
