I also have a 1998 Saturn SL1, and I had to do this a while back. You should probably park in the part's place's parking lot while you do this, that way if you get anything the wrong size you can deal with it right there.
1. Open the trunk
2. Get a small screwdriver bit, shaped like a six-pointed star. In my set it's called a T-15. Use this to remove both screws on the side where the light is out. DON'T lose the screws.
3. Pull off the light casing.
4. Push the lever and twist off the cap for whichever light is out. There are simple directions on the cap. The light bulb should come out with the cap.
5. Unscrew dead lightbulb and replace with new one.
6. Follow directions in reverse order to put it back together.
