My locks were not working properly on my 2007 328i so I opened gas cover latch manually by going into trunk, opening right side cover by taillight, then pulling on plastic latch relase.

Just Push on the left hand side of the fuel door and it should open. If it is locked, open the truck and on the left hand side, just above the little storage basket there should be a silver loop. pull on it and it will unlock the fuel door and allow you to open it by pushing on the left hand side. There is no latch or button to push to open it.
