Assuming tire is off and vehicle is supported behind and off of suspension components. Try to remove shock nuts and bolts, I cut them with saws all and grinder. The suspension is hanging, I then use spring spacers, load helpers, that can be acquired from any auto parts. Get longer grade 8 bolts & nuts and use them to start squeezing spring, collapsing it, place jack under suspension, put tension on jack which then makes it easier to collapse spring. Spring removed grind or torch rivets, punch them out. Clean and paint are with rust proofer also don't forget new parts. I like to coat the mating surfaces with grease just prior to assembly. Use grade 8 bolts and install new mount, spring with new j-hook and bolt, shock or shocks, brake lines (new), bleed brakes, put tire on and go to alignment shop. Any time parts on front or rear are changed that might effect alignment, get it checked. Be safe Always double support the truck when working under it, and be respectful of the spring, these little spring load kits come 2 sets per pack, I use 4 sets per spring. 2 do the work and 2 are my safety net ( be careful in where you put your fingers, as most of us only got 10 from God).

What type and year is vehicle. Does upper shock have vertical stud at top of shock or a hole on top of shock? paul To put it vaguely: Be it front or back, the unit as a whole, strut, spring, mount, is removed and the spring must then be compressed to replace the mount, then the spring is let out, then the assembly can be reinstalled.

2005 Chrysler town and country. there is a loud bumping noise that sounds like something is loose but I can find no loose components. Has anyone an educated guess?

I believe the 2005 is the same as the 2002. The upper strut mount has a large rubber mount inside the upper strut mount. The rubber gets old and detaches from the upper mount. If you put your finger inside the upper mount and touch the top of the strut shaft with your finger, rock the car back and fourth pretty vigorously and if the center shaft moves the upper strut mount needs to be replaced.

Does a 2000 Buick le Sabre have an upper ball joint?

No, It has struts in the front. The upper strut mount takes the place of a ball joint used on double A arm suspension.

How do you change front struts on a 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix?

You can replace the strut cartridges without removing the entire assembly. Simply jack up the front of the vehicle, and rest it securely on jack stands. Remove the top cover plates covering the strut towers (held on by three nuts). Once the plate cover is off, remove the upper strut nut, and remove the rubber mount. You'll need a special die-tool to remove the strut cartridges.. Remove the old ones, install the new. Torque them to the proper spec. Re-install the mount, the upper nut, and the plate cover. Torque all nuts to the proper specs.... ENJOY!!! You can replace the strut cartridges without removing the entire assembly. What is a strut bearing plate?

The top of the strut is connected to the vehicle body through the upper strut mount, in some cases called a bearing plate. This bearing plate allows the strut to pivot as the wheels are turned. It must be flexible enough to handle slight angle changes and dampen movement of the upper end of the strut. This mount or bearing plate transfers vehicle load to the strut and spring, making the upper mount/bearing plate the load carrier and the lower ball joint the follower.I found this on the Monroe site.

How to replace motor mounts in 1995 dodge neon?

You've got 4 mounts total. A transmission mount, then on the other side of the motor, you've got a mount that goes to the middle of the engine that is in the fender, and upper torque strut and a lower torque strut on that same side.

Can you change the front strut springs on a 1995 Hyundai Accent if you have a parts car to swap pieces?

Hi, Just finished the front strut work on my 1998 Hyundai Accent Hatchback. Step 1: Take off the tire. Step 2: Unscrew the Caliper bolt near the bottom of the caliper (Make sure you get a block for the caliper to rest on) Step 3: Unscrew the 2 Strut Bolts holding the strut in place (Before you do that, take a screwdriver and mark where the strut was sitting for when you bolt it back on) Step 4: Unscrew the upper strut nuts (3 of them and they are under the Bonnet) Step 5:Take the strut assembly out. Step 6: Use a spring compressor to compress the spring until there is no force on the upper strut mount. Step 7: Unscrew the nut holding the upper strut mount in place with your Impact and take the mount off. Step 8: Take tension off of the old spring and put a new one on using the same technique. Other than that, you reverse these steps and your done!!

How do you change front struts on your 2005 Mustang?

* Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the car and support it securely on jackstand.Remove the wheels * Place a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it slightly. The lower control arm must be supported throughout the entire procedure * Remove the ABS harness from the strut and remove the ABS sensor. If equipped * Remove the brake line bracket from the strut * Remove the stabilizer bar link from the strut * Mark the postions of the bolt heads to the strut then remove the strut to steering knuckle fasteners by loosening the bolts * Mark the upper strut mount in relation to the body, lower the control arm slightly and then remove the upper mount to body fastners * Separate the strut assembly from the steering knuckle and remove it from the car.Dont allow the steering knuckle to fall outward as the brake hose could be damaged.
