It's actually pretty easy once you figure it out, and can be done in about 5 minutes. First, you have to remove the instrument cluster by unscrewing the visable screws around the console. Then, pop that out and carefully unplug the wiring harness for it. Next, (in order to get your hand in there) you have to remove 3 screws from the key cylinder to move that out of the way. Once you've done all this, you can reach your hand up behind it and just gently pull it out. I'm doing this all from memory, but it should be more than enough to get you there.

replace hazard switch
Hi, Is your blinker actually flashing on and off? If not it may be your hazard switch. I had to replace mine.
The turn signals are controlled through the hazard warning switch. I have an 01 Alero and had the same problem. I had to replace the hazard warning switch. The dealer wanted like $90 for the switch, or you can try a salvage yard, which I did and payed $10. Hope this hepls.
Purchase a "pig tail" from the dealer and splice it in.
It is located under the dash behind the hazard button. The switch was recalled by GM on certain 2000 Aleros. Here is a link that gives in depth instructions with illustrations on removal and replacement of the switch. The instructions for the Alero start on page 4. The link http://www.gaownersclub.com/kbruce/misc/Flashers_04098_Dec_16_2004.pdf Hope this helps.
You have to replace the hazard/turn signal switch located in the center of the dash. Oldsmobile issued a recall for this part in 2004. If it has not been replaced, the dealer will do it for free. If it has been replaced, and failed again (like mine has) you are on your own. Call a dealer to see if it has been replaced yet.
it is in the hazard switch. take middle vent out and you can get to it
