He won't talk about her anymore and he'll stop relating everything that's wrong with his life to her and how she hurt him. Things will stop being "wrong" and he will be able to be happy again. This takes time. If you love him, please be reasonably patient. But also be warned, some guys never or just don't want to get over it. I'm sure some women are the same way.
