Cain was actually a Hebrew name (קין) which was pronounced: Qayin.

Seth was also Hebrew (שֵׁת) which was pronounced: Set. In ancient Aramaic culture names were often plays on words which could be both a name and a description of something at the same time. According to Dr. Richard S. Hess, Cain's name meant "Metal Worker" or one who cultivates the earth (agriculturalist if you will). Seth's name meant "Appointed or Placed" because Eve (his mother) believed him to be a replacement for her son who was killed.
