A very interesting question and is one that would be best answered by asking each to read the history of our prophets and their purpose. But, im sure we wouldn't be at wiki.answers. ;)

The same God whom revealed his guidance to all prophets did so to the Prophet Muhammed Peace be Upon Him. A little bit of background is needed here,

  • The story of our creation is that God has told us that he has created, Angels, Jinn and Humans.
  • the First human being Adam and then Eve from Adam.
  • When god brought Adam to life he asked all his creations to bow respectfully to Adam, where everyone did except for Iblis/Lucifer/Satan.
  • God/Allah shun Satan for his lack of obedience and an agreement was made that Satan not receive his punishment till the end of time where he can attempt to make all of Adam and Eves children disobey God also.

As time went, over and again we are lead in the right path by different Prophets and slowly drift back to idolatry, abuse, and other wrong doing.

So, the answer is Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, also came at a time where Judaism, Christianity and the World in general has seriously taken wrong turns. Satan and his followers time and again manage to spread seeds of disobedience and manage to lead us down bad roads and distort the true teachings of God. And Prophet Muhammad, through the Guidance of God set things straight again.

Answer 1

- One aspect worthy of being mentioned is that the religions' name itself is not mentioned by the founders or originators of the religion. For example, the names Judaism or Christianity is not a name that was given to the people by the Prophets Moses (PBUH) nor by Jesus (PBUH). In other words, God didn't give them a name then yet. The names Christian and Jewish were made up by the people themselves afterward.

- And nowhere is there Christian- or Jewish holy scripture that says that it is complete, you can realise this by considering that both is waiting for either the Messiah or the Second Coming. So they are still waiting to be completed!

- Islam considers the Qur'an the summary of all previous holy Scriptures revealed. It points out the differences of the followers, their arguments and often references to the Torah and Injill (Jesus's scripture).

- Allah mentions in the Qur'an that the religion is complete and named "Islam". Which was revealed via the prophet himself in his time.

Answer 2

Qur'an revelation by God to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated all what a believer should know in his life; including ritual worships, morals, daily life issues (as marriage, divorce, contracting rules, financing, ...etc), punishments rules on unjustified killing, fornication, robbery, and corrections to former faiths and beliefs. Refer to question below for more details.

Answer 3

Islam sees itself as building on the tenets established by the Divine Prophets, including many sanctioned to that end by Judaism or Christianity or characters from their traditions not considered prophets by Jews or Christians. The general problem with Judaism in particular, from an Islamic perspective is that the Jews never evangelized. In the Islamic perspective, a person should not hoard the Truth, but allow everyone to take part in it. The general problem with Christianity in particular, again from an Islamic perspective is the deification of God's messenger, which was not Jesus' intent. Both religions therefore, made executive decisions to "stray off the path" as it were. Mohammed's revelation occurred to make it clear what these deviations and incorrect interpretations were and how to rectify them.

As to Answer 1, I disagree that the future coming of the Messiah leaves the Jewish or Christian Bibles "open" as most Muslims hold that the Mahdi (a character who is very similar to the Jewish and Christian conceptions of the Messiah) will come in the future. By this logic, the Qur'an would also be "open". However, in none of the three cases is the Messiah or Mahdi supposed to bring another Testament. As such all three books are closed because each group of believers holds all of the Testaments they expect to receive.

Answer 4

So far the second coming of Jesus (or if you'd like to say "Mahdi"), is nowhere mentioned in the Qur'an, only Hadith, and the two sources is not the same.

Another point that should also be mentioned is that all other prophets and messengers were sent to a specific group of people and not to all the world. Moses was sent to the children of Israel and Pharaoh, Jesus wasn't sent to all the world either, he said himself (in the Gospel) that he was send to the "lost sheep of Israel". Prophet Muhammad is the messenger to all of Mankind.

Perhaps a Muslim believes that. As far as Christians are concerned, we are told the Scripture is complete in Jesus, the Christ:

Jude 1:3New King James Version (NKJV)Contend for the Faith

3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

Who was responsible for Christianity?

Technically, Jesus is responsbile for the origin of Christianity, seeing as the religion is based around him. However, the tradition of Christianity was not set by Jesus; it developed over time, but was begun mainly by early Jewish Christian believers, especially the twelve apostles, who functioned as early leaders. Saint Paul (and later, more extremely, Marcion) are largely responsible for separating Christianity from Judaism.
