Kennedy was a great leader because of the changes he made that still stand today, like the civil rights bill. He and Kruschev both stared away from a nuclear war as well, which could have been horrible. He also set up the Peace Corps, which got young people involved in helping undeveloped countries.(IE communist countries perhaps?). Also, for most of his life he was in great pain that he had to over come. ..One side of his body was much shorter than the other, so he had to wear a back brace (which is why he couldn't duck when the first bullet went through his shoulder).
