Best Answer

Stalin was able to begin and continue his dictatorial regime in several ways. Some of which are listed below:

1. The elimination of the Bolsheviks who opposed his style of government;

2. Combined with his elimination of opponents, he took advantage of his "Party position" in the government;

3. By the articulate use of Propaganda he was able to place his dogma above "reason", thereby creating "enemies" of the state which had to be liquidated;

4. He centralized the economy, placing himself and his loyalists in charge of the distribution of food and supplies;

5. Using whatever funds were available to place control of agriculture and heavy industry ahead of consumer needs such as housing;

6. Creating an educational system that placed the state and himself as the only alternatives;

7. Eliminating freedom of the press and controlling the flow of information to the populace;

8. Using the threat or actual use of armed force and secret police to eliminate the chance of any counter revolutions.
