Phil: Ummm, "obviously" the last guy didn't know (See what I did there?)! What I think you are looking for is a siege tower. It was used specifically in the First Crusade and was essentially a tower with wheels that could reach the extent of Antioch's walls.
The term "siege tower" was used for some scaling towers. But few had both ladder towers AND a ground level battering ram to break down doors and walls.
A SCALING LADDER A SCALING TOWER A BATTERING RAM A LONGBOW A CATULPULT ALL OF THESE WERE USED TO ATTACK CASTLES
A scaling tower and scaling ladder are both used to scale walls. A scaling tower is better though
Quite simply, the tower is rolled up to the enemy wall, whereupon attacking soldiers climb it from the inside and pour over the wall. It was a much safer way of breaching a wall than with scaling ladders, as the scaling tower was heavily protected from arrows, javelins, and other missiles hurled at them by the defenders, and soldiers on top of the tower provided covering fire for those climbing onto the enemy wall. Yet, it took time to get the tower into position, which made no secret to the defenders of where the breach was intended. For this reason, several towers were used at the same time whenever possible, and they were very effective.
A scaling ladder was used to siege stone castles. They will be used to climb up the long walls of the stone castle by attackers.
The battering ram was and is used to tear down the walls of an opposing force's fortress entrance (the gates to a fort or castle). Modern-day battering rams are used by swat teams to tear through doors.
A scaling tower was used in ancient wars to allow soldiers to reach the top of an enemies' town or fortress walls. If a battering ram is attached to it, then scaling the walls over an entrance to a fortress or city plus using the battering ram to break open the forts doors can be accomplished. This type of war "machines" were used into the Middle Ages.

it is used for knocking down castles and over looking places which is going to be attacked and if it is safe to attack and plan.
No as the battering ram was a medieval siege machine
Battering rams were used in ancient Assyria to break down the gates of besieged cities.
Battering rams became "old hat" when gunpowder became widely used in the West.
the battering ram is held by one or two people to bash a door down easier.
Battering rams were used in the Medieval period for basically ramming the fort or castle gate down, hence the name "battering ram". A group of about ten men (five on each side) would wheel it down to the gates and start swinging the center of the battering ram (a long log with usually a rams head at the front, attached by rope.) They keep on knocking until the gate has been destroyed.Source taken from "Rome Total War" try it!
They were used by putting them in there butts
