The French colonized Vietnam in the late 1800's. During WWII Japan invaded French Indochina (along with British Singapore, etc) and occupied those areas. In 1945 Japan (and Germany) surrendered to the allies, WWII was over. In late 1945/1946 the French and Great Britain returned to their former colonies, only to meet resistance from the nationals. The Soviet Union had been an ally during WWII, and was quick to offer aid to Vietnam, when the French returned to Vietnam, the Vietnamese had already accepted the Soviet doctrine of communism, and all of the military aid that came with it. In 1946, the French found themselves fighting a new Vietnamese Communist foe (Viet Minh) armed with Soviet equipment, although it was customery at the time to arm newly formed countries with "Captured Enemy" equipment, normally because it was already there. In this case left over WWII Japanese rifles, machinguns, tanks, aircraft were used, in addition to Soviet material (used and otherwise).
colonized by french and invaded by mongolions
The French were a foreign power occupying Vietnam. The Vietnamese wanted their independence.
Because Vietnam used to be a French colony.
The Vietnamese did not participate in WW2. Lots of dead bodies of Japanese soldiers testify to the participation of the Vietnamese in WW2. Japan invaded "French Indo-China" as it was then called and defeated the French in short order. The Vietnamese were not such a pushover and put up a spirited resistance all through the Japanese occupation.
Vietnam was a French colony. The Vietcong first threw out the French. Then America tried to conquer Vietnam and the Vietcong threw out the Americans.
The official language of Vietnam is Vietnamese. In addition to Vietnamese, minority languages such as Tay, Hmong, Khmer, and Chinese are also spoken in different regions of the country.
Vietnam was a French colony up until World War 2, when Japan invaded it. The Vietnamese were able to fight off the Japanese. After the war, France attempted to retake Vietnam, which created North and South Vietnam, leading to the Vietnam War.
The Viet Minh (Vietnamese Communists) fought the French from 1946-1954.

Vietnam was first invaded by the Japanese during World War 2. Vietnamese insurgents, along with Soviet and French soldiers, were able to hold out until the war ended. Once the war ended, The Soviets (and Ho Chi Minh) established North Vietnam and the French (with Diem) established South Vietnam.
After World War 2, the French went back to Vietnam (formerly their territory) in an attempt to reclaim it, but the Soviets had already taken North Vietnam. The Soviets helped establish Northern Vietnam, and left it to run itself. The French claimed South Vietnam, leading to a struggle between the two countries. The French battled North Vietnam on multiple occasions, but ultimately gave up. The U.S entered Vietnam in order to prevent North Vietnam from invading South Vietnam, but North Vietnam had the majority of support. While the North Vietnamese Army invaded from the North, Vietnamese insurgents (Viet Cong) used guerilla tactics in South Vietnam to disrupt U.S/NATO operations.
