There is no simple way to describe Australians. Australians are easy-going, but quite fiercely loyal to their friends (usually referred to as "mates"). They are a mixture of hard-workers and layabouts, intellectuals and honest labourers who believe in a hard day's work. They can be knocked down by tragedy, but most of them will always get back up again and forge ahead. They are freedom-lovers who enjoy beaches and sun, outback and fresh air, bulldust and the feel of a good rain after a long dry period. They are not demonstrative with their affections, but nor do they hold themselves back from others.

What are Australians traditions?

There are few traditions which are celebrated by most Australians, as the Australians are a diverse people from a mix of cultural backgrounds. Many would suggest that watching sport is a strong tradition. It is for a significant number of Australians, but there are many who have no interest in sport. Weekend picnics and barbeques are very popular "traditions", but again, they are not appreciated by all Australians.

Did the Chinese like the Australians in the gold rush?

During the Australian gold rush, the Chinese neither liked nor disliked the Australians. The Chinese were known for basically keeping to themselves and not mingling with the Australians, and for working hard. Because of this, they were mistrusted by the Australians, who would sometimes turn on them, threatening their property. This in turn caused the Chinese to fear the Australians.
