I'm looking for ways to reduce energy consumption in an office installation. How easy is it to install a lighting control system. A basic commercial solution would be adequate?

Get dimmer switches that use very high frequency oscillators. These work by flashing the light a large number of times per second(impossible to see). When you dim the light, the period that the light is off for is increased which makes the light look as if it has been dimmed regularly, except without the wastage of power that comes from using a resistor.

In the US most residential an a fair amount of commercial lighting is done with 110 volt 15 or 20 amp Alternating Current (AC) curcits. A large amount of office lighting is done with 277 volt 15 amp ac curcits. Some is done with 240 volt ac and some with 480 volt ac, but these ar usually in industrial or large area applications. There is also 208 and other source power applications but these are rarer still. LED, Florecent and other types of lighting is supplied through transformers with various voltages from 2 or 3 volts up to 10 or 15000 volts at very low amprages. The general rule is to accomplish the lighting requirements with the most efective and efficent possible amps and curcits based on the available power supply scource. calculate the total sum of lighting power and add 10% as safe operation of the transformer. then select a transformer for that rating. suppose your total lighting power is 300VA. add 10% of the total lighting power so the total power is 330VA. therefore your transformer size can be 330va or more. please follow IEE regulations.
