Ah, the classic girl-who-falls-for-her-best-guy-friend scenario. Now, I've gone through the same issue myself and it's risky stuff. Before taking the big leap, ask yourself: is it worth hurting our friendship? If you have any doubts, it's not the best idea to let him know how you feel. However, if you're still up for it, first look for the signs that he, too, may be into you:
-if his pupils dialate, or get larger. be warned, this also happens in lower-lit areas, but if you're close enough to look into his eyes. Generally, your pupils will dialate naturally when you're attracted to someone.
-the way he acts around you. Now this may be different depending on the guy, but he may sweat a little, fidget or act nervous, act more/less loud than around other people, touch you for no good reason, joke around with you a lot, etc. If he acts different around you than he does around most other girls or his friends, then that's a definite sign.
-if his friends/other girls act strange around you, and do things such as tease the guy or tell you he's hitting on you, don't take it lightly. It might be true!

If you really think it'd be worth it & he's into you, then go ahead and flirt to see if he responds positively. You could even end up asking him out, or vice versa. Remember, no friendship is worth the cost of one single boyfriend, so if you do end up dating him, promise each other that you won't let the breakup affect your friendship!
