I had a similar problem on mine. If it wouldn't start, I would have to loosen the fuel filter bleeder screw and pump the primer to get a little bit of air out. The instructions are in the diesel motor supplement to your owner's manual, it should be a separate little book included in the glove box pack. I had mine looked at several times, and they couldn't come up with anything. Of course it wouldn't do it for them, and I couldn't afford to leave it in the service garage forever. What I think is this: I received a notice from GM that there was a possible recall on my 2003 truck for fuel injectors. They would leak under certain circumstances. BUT the catch was that the dealer would have to prove that they were bad to get them covered. They never did on mine, until the day I traded it on a new one. Sometimes it wouldn't start after sitting for a week, sometimes it would fail after shutting it off to fill up the tank at the gas station. Sometimes it would sit forever and start just fine. It also could be the air/water sensing in the filter. Mine would not even try to pump fuel until I did the bleeding routine. Good Luck.
