I have a 1988 buick 49000 original miles was my grandfathers car took care of it came home one day engine or i think the engine started to make a really loud knocking noise please help?

Check the engine oil level. Normally you shouldn't be having this kind of problem with such a low mileage vehicle. If the engine oil level is ok, better have a mechanic check it out.
