No, as long as all the fuel pump wiring is connected the pump will run. Don't allow dirt to enter into the tank thru an open fill tube.

The fuel pump is inside the gas tank. To access the fuel pump you will need to remove the bed. This requires unbolting the bed, removing the gas filler neck, and unpluggin the wire harness for the tail lights. Once the bed is off the truck, the fuel pump can be taken out the top of the gas tank.

remove the bed of the truck and take the fuel pump out of the top of the tank you can remove the tank but taking the bead of the truck off is alot easier and it will give you room to work. it dosent have to come all the way off you just need to loosen all of the bolts that hold the bed down. Dont forget to remove the fuel filler hose from the bed before you lift it.
