I have recently replaced the heater core in your 89 s10 4x4 now when you start the truck the check gages light turns on and the temp gage runs all the way up. what maybe the problem?

Did you add coolant to the radiator? it's possible that you knocked the lead off the sensor. Check both things. That's pretty much all it can be.

I would check to see if your heater core is plugged. I recently had the same problem and I flushed the heater core with fresh water from both inlet and outlet hoses(I used a garden hose with one of those nozzles that you can change the water pattern and set it on full). That fixed the problem for me.

Check the heater valve and/or the controls to the valve. maybe a problem with the controls, most of them are run off of vacuum, if a hose has a hole in it, it wont work

Check into the temperature control valve--this is different than the thermostat.
