you don't need anything to go in, buy you do need a passport to get back out....

To Canada you don't need anything but an ID in case the Canadian police asks for it; to enter Mexico you need your passport only.

File the paperwork through their respective home state. Just go to the county courthouse, and they'll show you where to go from there.
