Skin color is a sign of different human races. It isn't a sign of different human species. We are all members of the human species that's called Homo sapiens. The species is diverse in its representation by different races, languages, beliefs and appearances.

other than that, the area the people lived in affected their skin color (sunny -- dark, because dark skin doesnt burn as easily ) (cold- light)
