Among scholars, the story of Jacob and Esau is widely considered to be a myth. In any case, there is nothing in The Bible to suggest that God hated Esau.
Even David Goldstein, author of Jewish Mythology, a book of Jewish midrashim that purport to explain the Bible, recognises that the story of the dying Isaac blessing Jacob instead of Esau was an invention, intended to explain the success of Jacob.
If there really was an Esau, he was the ancestor of the Edomites. During the Hellenistic period, the name of the Edomites was changed to Idumeans. This is recognisably similar and is the Greek translation of the Hebrew, Edomites. During the Maccabean period of the second century BCE, the Jews had a brief period of regional ascendency and were able to conquer some surrounding territory, including Idumea, which was then located a little to the south of Jerusalem.
The conquering Jews forcibly converted the Idumeans to Judaism, so any descendants of the Edomites would probably be Jews, unless individual Idumeans have in turn converted to another religion.
