No you shouldn't, and good for you! Just stand up for yourself and don't let anyone mess with you and get the best of you. I'm sure there's ways out there to prevent jerks from doing this without having to compromise your respect and manners. AND--believe it or not, there are more people in the world to associate with! You will be valued by someone you value..keep looking. On the otherhand, if there is something good about these people, notice it. Even if you choose to not hang out with them, your noticing the good, reinforces what's good in you.

This is a very sensitve and political question and should not even be posted. Manners, correct manners as it were, are a result of culture and upbringing and can completely change outside of the context of the culture. So withing the culture if the manners are deemed appropriate and correct, then they are. Outside of the context of the relevant culture, this should not even be considered. As a respecful person, it is up to us to advise someone, or not(letting it go) if their "manners" are correct for the social culture that the person finds him or herself in. "As in Rome, do as the Romans do", and "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you(the golden rule). My wifer and her kids are Philippino, and some eating customs are completely appropriate and correct in their culture, but would be considered rude here.

For some, not all, good manners can be infectious because good manners in the right places polish the person's personality and rounds out their character. Just because some people may lead a life that is more laid back and they are not into high social events where manners are most expected doesn't mean that person is a lesser individual. The purpose of manners is to make social interactions work more smoothly. When things go more smoothly, it increases the likelihood that people will consider the needs of others in addition to their own. Therefore, one person showing consideration for others can have a beneficial effect on everyone. However, manners are learned behavior, and it is unlikely that exposure to good manners will make a boorish person more mannerly unless that person truly wants to learn and change.
Particles do not change when they change state from solid to liquid form. However, they will change behavior because they are completely still when they are solid and move faster when a liquid.
Good manners and proper behavior do not change with the number of people with whom you are interacting.

Augustus was respectful of the senate despite his power because he was much smarter politically than his uncle/father Julius. He learned from Caesar's assassination, which was caused by Caesar's ignoring the senate and actually insulting it. He also knew that his form a government was a change and change came slowly to the old men of the senate. One of his sayings was "make haste slowly".

Huck was extremely poor and never learned manners. Such people frequently "joke around" until they learn better manners. It happens today. Just look around you. Upbringing does not change.
