If a brand new 350 bored 30 over new everything started it up and there was a tick in it and the push rods are bent what are ideas?

did you rotate the crank and check for binding at every step of assembly with the plugs out the engine should turn almost effortlessly? is there clearance for the valves when the piston reaches top? i dont know how many changes have been made to the engine, you are spending a lot of money for a rebuild so dont take any chances. While valve lash could be the problem, there are several other possibilities, especially if you installed a larger cam. If you install a camshaft with higher than stock lift, the valve springs MUST be replaced, if not, coil bind is likely which will bend the pushrods. If it is a high lift cam, valve retainer and valve guide/oil seal clearance can also become a problem. Valve to piston clearance can also be an issue if a high lift cam was installed as well. ALL of these clearances should be checked when installing ANY camshaft that has higher lift than the stock cam. Checking these clearances even with a stock cam isn't a bad idea, but most stock cams have a low enough lift that as long as the cam is installed correctly, you won't even come close to having interference/clearance issues.
